Search Engine Optimization Case Study

This is a Search Engine Optimization effort for McClellan Jet Services (MJS) located at the Sacramento McClellan Airport in Sacramento, CA. MJS is what is know as an FBO within the aviation community (a Fixed Base Operator). MJS is the only FBO at their particular airport, but they are one of many FBO's at airports throughout the greater Sacramento area, and across the broader northern California region.

When we first took on their Website Development project in early 2008, MJS had a single #4 listing on Google page-1 for the search term of "Sacramento FBO" - their primary targeted keyword. As a result of our sound Website Development efforts, based on our Search Engine Optimization standards, here is where MJS now dominates their targeted search for "Sacramento FBO" - the client's micro-level target keywords. In fact, this January 2010 Google screenshot is nearly identical results since the spring of 2008!

So, as you can see, MJS Search Engine Optimization efforts took them from a single top-5 listing on Google page-1, to a #1 and #2 placement on page-1. But, if you look at the four lower red squares, you will see the four simple video segments we shot and published on their behalf as early prototyping for online video. Hence, MJS Search Engine Optimization resulted in positions 4, 5, 6, and 7 - for a total of six page-one placements with their message. But wait, it gets better!

When we first took on the MJS Website Development project, the client also wanted to get this massive airport and jet center even more visibility so it would rank high among all FBO's in the state of California. With a near 11,000 foot runway, and more than a quarter-million square feet of hangar space, it is in a class of very few airports on the west coast. So, our Search Engine Optimization efforts included a mid-level target for "California FBO" - which, at the beginning, they had absolutely nothing appearing on the first TEN pages of Google. Here is where they have ranked for most of the last two years.

So, as you can see, our Search Engine Optimization efforts took them from non-existent on Google for "California FBO" to a #2 and #3 listing on page-1. However, look further down on the page and there are also two videos we produced for the client, #9 and #10 for a total of four... from zero previously. But, wait, it gets even better.

This operation is so vast, with hangars so large, supporting an endless stream of 747's, large civilian transport aircraft, and it's fair share of Military traffic, the airport can support and really needed International visibility. When we began our Search Engine Optimization efforts for their Website Development project, we discovered that the client was not listed on the first FIFTY pages on Google for the "FBO" keyword search term - the client's Macro-level target. Here is how they have climbed over the last two years.

So, as you can see, our Search Engine Optimization efforts took them from non-existent on Google for "FBO" to a #4 listing on page-1 - only below Wikipedia entry about what airport FBO's are and the Federal Budget Office. So here is a summary of the results our Search Engine Optimization efforts achieved with a well executed Website Development project:

1. Micro-Level "Sacramento FBO" - #1, 2, 4, 5, 6, & 7 out of 388,000 possible results
2. Mid-Level "California FBO" - #2, 3, 9, & 10 out of 319,000 possible results
3. Macro-Level "FBO - #4 out of 3,510,000 possible results
