New Media Channel DevelopmentNew Media Content is Most Valuable when Distributed with Focus |
The broad popularity of the large video sharing sites (i.e. YouTube, Viddler, etc.) have proven one simple thing - the larger they become the more convoluted they are. New Media content, especially video, are terrific mediums to get your message across, but without some sort of focused application, you may as well toss your DVD into the ocean. THRUST! began developing New Media Channel capabilities with the launch of our TopFlight.TV Aviation Video Channel in the summer of 2008. Aviation is a real passion area for much of our core team, so the Aviation New Media Channel was a natural way for us to share our original Video Production work from airshows, the Reno Air Races, plus the great planes that grace our skies. We truly discovered the untapped potential of targeting a niche community of people passionate about the same things we are. Here's a screen shot as the TopFlight.TV New Media Channel looked at the end of 2009.
Over nearly two years, we began to better understand the intricacies of New Media Channel Development within the context of a niche community. Then of course, the next natural question arose, can we take what we have learned and apply it to a real community? Not a virtual community, like is so popular online, but a real community like our home town? We are designing our New Media Channel Development strategies to fit a city the size of Sacramento, CA (about 500,000 people), with a greater metropolitan population reach of nearly 2,000,000 people - including the surrounding communities. In 2010, we aim to launch of our AboutHere.TV Regional/Local New Media Channel with one-to-four bedroom communities, with populations ranging from 12,000 to 75,000 residents. Until it goes live, here is a screen shot of our prototype from 2009.
Stay tuned for more exciting things ahead from our New Media Channel Development project. |
